About Me

I am a member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS) and the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) adhering to their ethics and guidelines. I have achieved the BACP Certificate of Proficiency. I offer counselling to adults, young people and children, working from my home in a room set aside for counselling.

I initially trained as an integrative counsellor at Newman University, which qualified me to work with adults, after which I trained at the University of South Wales in counselling children and young people. I also trained in Bereavement Counselling with Cruse Support Care, and I still volunteer with them today. Working with bereaved people is a very important part of my practice.

Prior to working as a counsellor, I taught early years for several years and later children in key stage one and key stage two. I am well aware of the pressures on children and young people today and felt drawn to working with them as a counsellor. I have thoroughly enjoyed my work as a school counsellor as well as seeing children and young people in my private practice.

I offer short or long-term counselling in abuse, anger, anxiety, bereavement and loss, depression, low self-esteem, self harm, stress, suicidal thoughts, work related issues, obsessive compulsive disorder, relationship issues. I have helped children with  depression, behavioural issues, obsessive compulsive disorder, self-harm, anxiety, family problems, anger, bullying, low self-esteem, dyslexia, bereavement, selective mutism. When working with children I often use creative counselling skills such as sand tray, drawing, painting, coloured clay to help the child engage in the process and to encourage them to have fun! Children learn best when they enjoy what they are doing.
